rough cut comparison against professional magazine
Here is my magazine below is one made by NME, the aim of the creation is to make an almost seamless copy of a professional magazine. Most of my ideas as well as the genre are reflected in NME as this is the magazine that I studied most. While the NME front cover and my own magazine front cover can be seen as similar it is clear at the moment that from this rough cut the NME cover is more professional than my own. The lack of dead space is noted to be more professional on the NME front cover while mine has some dead space in the top right hand corner that at the moment should be edited and therefore lose the dead space. This could be done with a banner or an image for another article. The use of the colour pallet is similar and comparable with the use of red, black and white being almost the only colours seen on the page, this is reflected in my magazine and also the genre of indie. This is professional and attractive for the audience. The banner on the NME version of the magazine is featured on both the top and the bottom whereas in mine it is only featured on the top. This therefore could be an idea that I could include in my own to allow professional look for the magazine.
The contents page of my magazine isn't as professional as the contents page from NME, the band index section of my contents page was inspired by the NME magazine. I feel that this is useful section for both the reader and the creator of the magazine, the Band Index allows the reader to be able to see all of the available articles that could be seen inside this magazine however it is also useful for the creator of the magazine therefore this helps to remove all of the dead space that would be there instead. However as you can see from the professional magazine to my own the text is much smaller on the professional magazine whereas mine is very large, it is important that the contents page is changed to this format to allow it to appear more professional.
The similarities between my own magazine and the NME double page spread is very similar, this is due to the fact that my inspiration for my double page spread. Therefore i feel that this is probably one of my most professional looking pages, however I could potentially add another image to the page while I am yet undecided. The quote in the centre of the magazine appears very professional and reflects that of a professional magazine as well as the sub image in the bottom corner. This is useful in breaking up the text and therefore makes for easier reading. Finally the header on top of the image as well as the quote works well to liven up the otherwise dull black and white image.
self assessment of rough cut
I believe that my work currently is at around a band 3, this is due to the way in which the magazine compares to other already marked magazines. I think that there is too much dead space on some parts of my front cover e.g. the top right hand corner, this reflects unprofessional work and therefore should be changed before my final presentation. I think that the layout of the text on my front cover appears very professional, the text stands out well off the page and is therefore eye catching. Audience appeal is almost everything that a magazine must be about and I feel that my magazine does this well. The text is bold and reflects the 'bold' genre. The model used on the front cover is appealing to the genre through the clothes that he is wearing. After a lot of research into the genre it is clear that this is an appearance that would be expected of the genre and therefore would be appealing to the indie audience, maximising audience appeal. I feel that the layout of the magazine reflects that of well organised magazine, the rule of thirds is used well and as is the colour pallet that I have chosen, these are themes that are stereotypical of an indie magazine, this therefore appears professional.
I feel that my contents page is the weakest of my pages, the way in which the page is laid out works well however the text for my main articles is too big, this looks very unprofessional and rather than this the articles should instead be smaller, include more headings and include more images. The image that I do use works well with the genre as Reading and Leeds is an indie rock music festival (the same as my genre) this therefore will appeal to a wide amount of the magazines audience and therefore works well. I feel that the Band Index works well at taking up what would be dead space, along with the alternate colour scheme I feel that this works very professionally. I think that the headings and the articles that I have chosen looks very good and their core ideas are what I want to continue to use anyway I just think that they should be smaller and there should be more of them.
My double page spread works well with the use of images that I have in so far, the images are shot well and the edits allow the images to have a rustic vintage feel to them, that that is common to the indie genre. However I feel that more images would be useful to the page to break up what is otherwise a vast amount of text. The quote in the centre of the page reflects that of most magazines and therefore appears very professional. The header on the top of all of my pages allows continuity and creates a link between all of my pages this looks professional and is good image for the magazine.

rough cut feed back post
After my original rough cut the feedback that I have been given is helpful to helping to adapt my work to improve the piece as a whole. Some of the key things that I need to change would include: adding page numbers, smaller text on contents page to contrast with the more images that should be added to the page. Some more images should be added to double page spread due to the fact that the vast amount of text may be over powering to the reader. Include some more graphics on the front cover of the magazine to make it more appealing and a prop for double page spread.

Evidence of photography
Here are my evidence of me taking my photos images. As you can see I used a very of locations chosen by me including both inside (the studio) and outside (indie locations). The way I am taking the photos are clear reflection of the magazine itself, the understanding of the portrait image profile that would have to be included in a magazine.
